As beautiful as their carefully chosen surroundings, Banyan Tree’s resorts have become a houshold brand in the eco-resorts arena. Being one of the first, and still few, hotels to publish annual sustainability reports, Banyan Tree’s sustainability roots arose from its founder’s commitments. Ho Kwon Ping’s passion for the environment and his early understanding that the greatest harm and good is done at the developmental level of hotels, in part drove the Banyan Tree chain to become the industry leader it is today, with locations ranging from India and Chain and Laos to Sri Lanka.

While Banyan tree resorts are often situated in the world’s most pristine environments such as wetlands, atolls, beaches and lagoons, the quickly expanding hotel chain contributes to the local environment through conservation and education activities. The chain is committed also to minimizing its development impacts as much as possible through use of local building materials, and integrating resource conservation initiatives such as recycling and minimization of energy usage. All of this detracts nothing from the luxurious and relaxed atmosphere for which the hotels are known among travellers
