Ecozine's very own takes the top prize

Earlier this month, WWF-Hong Kong beautifully orchestrated an online photo competition, with the stipulation that participants had to submit their photos via smart phone photo-sharing social media favorite, Instagram. Entrants were asked to submit pictures under the theme of WWF and/or conservation, ensuring that each photo was tagged with #mywwf and @wwfhk.

After receiving more than 200 entries, WWF-HK narrowed it down to the top 100, and turned to the public to vote for their favorites. The photos were exhibited at the new WWF Visitor Center in Central, as well as presented on a digital photo exhibit on Facebook. The prize? The winning photo will be published in WWF’s “Above Life” magazine, as well as printed on a limited edition WWF t-shirt.

It is with great delight that we can report that Ecozine’s very own Esther Wong took the top prize! Her winning photo shows the Hong Kong skyline (facing towards Tsim Sha Tsui), with fluffy clouds and an immaculate blue-sky overhead. Of the photo, she said, “Oftentimes I looked across the harbor and saw this exact view, but on most occasions the air quality was so poor that all I saw was grey skies. On this particular day, everything cleared out and to me, it felt like it was a reminder as to how beautiful our city is, and can continue to be, if we act more responsibly and adopt a more environmentally-conscious lifestyle.”
