Did you know that October 16th is World Food Day? Established in 1979, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations chose this day (which happens to be the anniversary of FAO’s founding in 1945) to raise public awareness on the problem of global hunger. Supporters of World Food Day also hope to bring attention to the agricultural food production process, and encourage participation of rural people in developing countries to have a greater influence in their living conditions.

To celebrate this day, we thought we’d bring attention to the new farmers’ market on the block – Island East Markets in Quarry Bay, a weekly event that is truly bringing the entire community together, all in the name of fresh foods and fun!

Island East Markets officially opened on 30 September 2012 to great acclaim, and has just one Sunday remaining in their trial period. So, head on down to Island East Markets this weekend to get your fill of organic produce and learn recipes from some of the greats!

Island East Markets
