Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week, also known as FAT (Fashion Art Toronto) just celebrated its sixth anniversary. In addition to featuring films and artistic installations and 50 runway showcases from various Canadian and international designers, an entire day was devoted to sustainable designers. Themed as “Natural Currencies”, the showcase explored fashion’s role in sustainability and fair trade. Designers included Kali, Loft 604, Nettie Blanche, and Worth by David C. Wigley. With designs using upcycling and made from eco-friendly fabrics such as organic cotton, Lyocell and bamboo rayon along with hand-dyed fabrics, eco and sustainable fashions certainly wowed the crowd.
