DHL HK goes green
DHL Hong Kong buys its first-ever green truck for transport

Hong Kong logistics companies are slowly but inevitably joining the green movement. At the end of January 2011, DHL Express Hong Kong bought its first-ever hybrid truck. The ceremony to receive it was held on January 26. Universal Cars Limited, from whom it was purchased, had its General Manager Mr. Peter Lau present at the ceremony, where he formally presented a key to the Managing Director of DHL Express Hong Kong Limited, Mr. Ken Lee. This ceremonial transfer of the key represented the first ever Canter Eco Hybrid joining DHL’s Hong Kong fleet.

Although green trucks still do not yet have a major presence in Hong Kong, DHL was very excited to bring in this truck with the help of UCL. DHL views this move as a step forward to attaining transport that runs on low carbon and which saves energy. This truly is an important step for eco friendly transport and logistics, and hopefully with the government’s support and encouragement, more and varied types of green transport can be embraced by Hong Kong industry.
