A group of Hong Kong based companies in the textile and apparel sectors have formed the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium (SFBC), launched on Earth Day 2008. The consortium’s vision is to create a platform to improve the textile and apparel industry’s manufacturing processes to minimize impact on the environment. Commitments include: increasing the use of sustainable raw materials, reducing energy consumption, reducing the impact of waste and chemicals, promoting fair trade practices and employment practices as well as training the next generation in sustainable practices. Led by chairman Pat-Nie Woo, the SFBC are currently engaged in a number of initiatives such as: energy reduction reviews, cut and sew waste recycling, dye stuff recycling and WWF’s Low Carbon Manufacturing Programme.
