According to Science Daily, researchers from the University of Pittsburgh conducted the first-ever complete life-cycle assessment of light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights by comparing them to high-pressure sodium (HPS) and metal halide lamps, which are commonly used in cities all over the world.
The assessment showed that LED lights, which consist of tiny clusters of high-intensity bulbs known for their high-efficiency and luminosity, came out on top and proved to strike the best balance among factors such as brightness, affordability, energy and environmental conservation.
The study also delved into non-life-cycle issues and advised that choosing the right LED vendor is crucial when installing LED lights into residential or commercial properties and encouraged governments, business and home owners to look at experienced vendors who offer LED management and installation services.
