Purifying the Urban Jungle
A innovative and green solution to pollution

The global premium automotive brand, Infiniti, and Hopewell Centre in Wan Chai have launched Hong Kong’s first CityTree.
Installed outside Infiniti’s Global Headquarters at the Hopewell Centre, the CityTree is a four-meter high, smart air cleaning solution that uses a combination of special moss cultures and vascular plants to reduce air pollution to the effect of 275 urban trees.
Specifically, the plant filter removes harmful fine dust, nitrogen dioxide and ozone from the air creating a smog-free area with a radius of 50m around the installation.
Also, using the cutting edge Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology – including Wi-Fi, iBeacon and digital screens – the CityTree self-sufficient without the need for regular maintenance.
The CityTree was created by German-based start-up Green City Solutions.
The company participated in last year’s “Infiniti Accelerator” program, which saw eight start-ups undergo 12 weeks of intensive business training at the Infiniti LAB, an innovative new co-working space in Wan Chai.
The program culminated in an Investor Demo Day where start-ups pitched their business ideas to potential investors for funding and partnership. Infiniti worked with Green City Solutions on its further development and installed the first CityTree in Hong Kong.
Green City Solutions has gone on to win multiple global awards, and co-founder Dénes Honus was named in this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 European social entrepreneur list.
Dane Fisher, Managing Director of Asia and Oceania at Infiniti Motor Company commented: “We are delighted to partner with Green City Solutions and Hopewell Centre to bring the first CityTree to Hong Kong. We created the Infiniti LAB and the ’Infiniti Accelerator’ Program to support entrepreneurs and nurture their business ideas. This is part of our long-term strategy to drive and promote innovation to benefit entrepreneurs, support the community and invest in the future of Smart Cities locally and globally.”
Dénes Honus, co-founder of Green City Solutions said: “We are very excited to announce the installation of our first unit in Hong Kong in partnership with Infiniti and Hopewell Centre. Our participation in the Infiniti Accelerator was extremely helpful in taking our company to the next level and gaining exposure in the Asian market where we’re working closely with our exclusive partner JOS.”
The CityTree is a step towards natural and sustainable solutions to air pollution, especially in dense cities such as Hong Kong.
