*** Programme Update - March 17th, 2016 ***
1. The programme now has the full endorsement and support from the Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA) - ZWIA was established to promote positive alternatives to landfills and incinerators and to raise community awareness of the social and economic benefits to be gained in striving for Zero Waste. It is a US-based organization with members from over 50 countries that aims to provide assistance to companies, universities, governments and other organizations for the development of tools aimed at the reduction and extinction of solid waste generation.
2. The certification process is now aligned with the globally standardized ZWIA - In 2005, the Planning Group of ZWIA adopted the use of 10 principles that aims in addition to guide and evaluate both current and future Zero Waste policies established by companies, and the evaluation of employees, customers, suppliers and society in general, with regard to resource efficiency of businesses.
3. The ZWIA board of directors have voted Hong Kong as the host for the 2016 International Zero Waste Dialogue - Since 2002, ZWIA has organized eight Zero Waste International Dialogues to bring Zero Waste corporate and community members together from around the world to collaborate and celebrate a world working towards Zero Waste. The Dialogue will be held November 13-15th, and will provide a platform focused on innovative and practical solutions to reduce waste generation. International case studies will be highlighted as well as the work of communities and agencies that are on the cutting edge of sustainable materials management. Participation in the Challenge includes full, complementary access to all activities.
4. We have further developed the programme syllabus and zero waste master class content - International experts from the US, Europe, South America, and other parts of Asia have confirmed their support and participation.
5. We have hired an experienced full time programme leader, Jason Sylvester, to take care of all your needs - Jason is a passionate environmentalist with over 20 years international project management and operational experience, including the last eleven years in the Asia Pacific region. He has delivered projects in a variety of industries (sustainability, pharmaceutical, telecom, IT)  and has been responsible for managing budgets in excess of US$50 million. He has been an active member of the Sustainable Development Committee at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong since 2006, and has been co-organizing the annual Team Canada Beach Clean.
The programme will kick off during the last week of May 2016, with a breakfast meeting, media kick-off and master class with international expert leaders.

Following the success of Hong Kong's first Zero Waste Week in 2015,  we are delighted to share an exciting new programme for Hong Kong offices: Zero Waste Corporate Challenge (ZWCC)!
Hong Kong is facing a serious waste problem. A regular topic in government policy discussions and mainstream media, it is a known fact that our landfills are filled to near capacity, recycling in the region is weak at best, and a waste charging scheme will soon be enacted. Meanwhile studies show that China, including Hong Kong, is the world's #1 contributor to the eight million tonnes of plastic debris entering the oceans each year. Reducing waste has become a matter of urgency – for our economy, our ecosystems, and ourselves.
The Hong Kong business community needs to take action, and here is an opportunity. Through our 15 years of running the Hong Kong Cleanup, we have been fortunate to engage with hundreds of companies, and we understand the needs and challenges around waste reduction in the corporate environment. We have identified that while cleaning up is important, it is not the answer.

We want to help companies reduce at source, and increase profitability in doing so.
Thus, we have developed a unique opportunity for companies to take a leadership role in this vital facet of environmental responsibility, and to be recognised for it among peers, clients and stakeholders.
The ZWCC is a two-year corporate responsibility action plan, sanctioned by the International Zero Waste Alliance, with quarterly touch points and professional guidance, for companies to reduce their waste footprints, and save/make money.

The programme has a suite of entitlements, including consultation from international zero waste experts; waste characterisation surveys and audits; staff engagement tools and events; PR & communication benefits; regular support from our expert team; certification upon completion; and an opportunity to join Asia's first Zero Waste Business Council.
This is a groundbreaking initiative, designed specially for Hong Kong offices. Please join the first programme, and stake your place as an environmental leader in your sector.
