Go Clean a Beach!

Hong Kong International Coastal Cleanup Challenge
September 15, 2010

I’m excited – beach cleanup season is upon us, one of my favourite times of the year! 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Challenge, and the 10th anniversary of cleanups managed by Ecovision right here in Hong Kong.
This event is the biggest of its kind in the world – over 500,000 people participate every year! In Hong Kong, last year saw more than 6,500 participants clean over 30,000kg of litter from our beautiful beaches, and this year the numbers are growing. I love being part of an event that truly brings together corporates, schools, and community members and gets everyone out in the sunshine for a good cause!
The Coastal Cleanup isn’t just about cleaning beaches, either – it’s about raising awareness and getting people thinking about the entirely preventable problem of marine trash. This is a massive issue! It is a threat to marine wildlife and ecosystems, and undermines tourism and economic activity. Re-thinking, reducing, re-using and recycling are the answers.
Get involved in the fun, learning and action by signing up a team today. See you on the beach!
