the healing powers of turmeric
May 3, 2013

I recently returned from a month-long spiritual and educational trip to Bali, where my senses were nourished with delicious raw vibrational foods – really, I was literally vibrating with health because the food was so alive and so good! One of my favorite “tipples” was the amazing powerful and healing Turmeric Jamu Juice.
Jamu is used in Indonesian traditional medicine and is made from a number of healing herbs.  My dear friend and Raw Food Bali owner, Jon Dale tells me  “Jamu is an ancient art that embodies the awesome power of nature. Traditionally made by women, Jamus are healing concoctions comprised solely of natural ingredients and brewed with the immeasurable love of the nurturing mother. To re-introduce Jamus into the modern world is to remember where we came from and what truly allows us to thrive. Continuing traditions like these will be...

make your skin glow!
April 30, 2013

Last week, I treated myself to a 5 day green-juice feast with gallbladder and liver flush, all whilst studying to be able to guide others to do the same – I know, I’m crazy! Everyday I performed a handful of detoxing rituals to support my transformation and detox.
Amazingly, I gained bags of energy, a clear mind, plus I lost weight and felt great!
I thought I’d share some of the detox methods I used during this week of self-care. The best part is, you don’t need to go miles away from home to detox everyday, you can perform these body-loving detox methods in the comfort of your own home and as often as you like. I, for one, will continue to use these self-care techniques every day from here on in, because I really do feel great and my skin is glowing!

1. Oil pulling – oil pulling is an ancient Indian medicine (Ayurveda) technique. The method is...

raw vs processed chocolates!
April 21, 2013

I have finally found it, chocolates that can help you to actually loose weight and fight off disease, but I’m not talking your usual dairy milk chocolate, no, it has to be raw and pure cacao-based chocolates.
I have been studying and living the benefits of raw foods for some time now and chocolate has become one of my favourite subjects. Here in Bali on my Raw Food Chef and Health Educator training with Elaina Love’s Pure Joy Culinary Academy, I have become something of an addict to making raw chocolates. Trust me, they’re delicious!
Check out the recipe below and my top reasons to eat this raw chocolate today.

Did you know that one of the top causes of illness and disease is actually dehydration.
April 14, 2013

Did you know that one of the top causes of illness and disease is actually dehydration. Think about it, on average over 60% of the human body is water, the brain is composed of up to 90% water, and the lungs are nearly 90% water. Water is essential for our survival, we wouldn’t last longer than a few days without it, and it comes only second to oxygen in terms of essential nutrients we need to live.
Hydrating your body is more than just sipping a glass of water, because not all water sources are created equally.
Here are my top 5 tips to really rehydrate.
1. Add salt to your water – distilled water, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency, could be acid forming, as it does not contain alkalizing minerals. Our body will always fight to maintain a more alkaline environment when we are too acidic, extracting minerals like calcium from bones to help...

with a delicious recipe to boost your good gut bacteria.
April 7, 2013

We can’t turn the pages in a health magazine or a recipe blog these days without the mention of “good bacteria” creeping in (says me in this post). Is it really that big a deal for our digestion and health?
I’ve been learning all about fermented foods, kefirs and good bacteria where I am here in Bali on my Raw Food Chef and Health Educator certification course with the Pure Joy Academy (hence why my post this week is a bit late). Who knew bacteria could be so interesting, and here’s why.
Did you know that up to 70% of our immunity is in our gut, so it makes total sense to make sure that we look after our digestive system as much as possible.
If you think of our bodies as human ecosystems, full of cells as well as things like bacteria, it makes sense that in order to thrive we need to maintain a healthy balance to keep...
