Founded by a group of passionate musicians, producers and songwriters in 2007, Backstage Live Restaurant is no secret for those familiar with the music scene in Hong Kong.  This gathering place of music lovers is not only open for live music and private events, but also a quiet place for lunch with a great view of Central’s Wellington Street.  We checked out Backstage’s recently launched Green Monday menu.
 

For lunch, the starter and main come with a tea/coffee for HKD 108.  The Baby Spinach Salad with Mushrooms, Eggs and Honey Dressing starter was quite fresh and simple but it could use more seasoning as only the salad dressing had some flavour.  The Braised Porcini Ravioli with Seasonal Vegetables for the main was excellent.  Topped with olive oil stir fried zucchini that was moist and juicy, the tasty and rich porcini ravioli was braised in delicious pumpkin sauce.  Beyond the lunch set, there is also a Roasted Pumpkin with Braised Asparagus, Mushroom and Zucchini in Pumpkin Sauce on the Green Monday dinner menu which is HKD 298 for two and comes with the salad, two sets of soup, ravioli as well as the pumpkin.  Fresh baked in the oven, the presentation of the pumpkin reminded us of carving pumpkins for Hallowe’en minus the haunted faces.  The pumpkin is filled with an assortment of healthy vegetables, but because the sauce does taste quite similar to the braised ravioli, we probably wouldn’t order both dishes at the same time.  We look forward to dropping by Backstage as new additions, especially pasta dishes, are added to the vegetarian menu!
