Sold-out premiere

An evening to highlight the issues faced by Hong Kong and the world

The highly anticipated and widely acclaimed ‘Trashed’ documentary by Jeremy Irons, with music by Vangelis, screened last night at Palace IFC to a packed theater! and the Hong Kong Cleanup, with sponsors Nomura, Dopper and Beyond O2, were proud to jointly present ‘Trashed’ for the first time in Asia.

As part of World Environment Week, tickets sold out within one day of release – we even had a few people show up during registration, waiting to hear of cancellations!

‘Trashed’ took viewers on a journey from skepticism to sorrow to hope, with an unflinching attitude toward the vast issue of waste and how it affects humans and nature. Each year, we throw away 58 billion disposable cups, billions of plastic bags, 200 billion liters of water bottles, billions of tons of household waste, toxic waste and e-waste. We buy it, we bury it, we burn it and then we ignore it. But what happens to all of this trash? With Jeremy as our guide, we discover where the billion or so tons of unaccounted waste goes to each year.

We would like to thank everyone that made the evening such a success, and especially to all of our guests who attended! If you were there last night and felt disheartened by the “plastic soup” in our oceans, why not sign up a team for this year’s Hong Kong Cleanup challenge season and get plastics off of our streets, country trails, and coasts?
